Bright Future Awaits Us
Covid has wreaked havoc on many people, including children and the elderly. Education is not the same as it used to be, when we could see our instructors and classmates in person, but today we are meeting virtually in the amidst of a pandemic. The days of waking up early, getting ready for a new day at school, and having fun have passed us by. Meeting virtually is a pain for us because we have issues with our internet connection and house disturbances that prevent us from attending virtual classes and missing lessons, but thankfully, even if these issues must stand in our way, the teachers are always available when we communicate with them and ask for more information in our lessons.
Every November, the Council of Welfare for Children
declares National Children's Month (CWC). This month-long event aims to educate
and promote awareness about children's rights in the Philippines, while also
taking into consideration the country's political and socioeconomic context.
This year's theme is "New Normal na Walang
Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata at Ating Tutukan."
Every year, National Children's Month strives to
promote and acknowledge children as one of the country's most important assets,
as well as the importance of their position in the Filipino family and society. Let us strive to provide a positive example for our
children by being aware of our own actions. Because a childs character is
developed at home, every family member should work to make the home a safe and
harmonious setting, as the environment and conditions will have a significant
impact on the child's development.
Children who are vulnerable must be protected by providing them with enough information about the pandemic we are experiencing, keeping them well-nourished and healthy, and protecting them from violence, exploitation, and abuse. With school closures and subsequent isolation, children who are victims of violence at home or online are cut off from teachers, social service workers, and other key sources of support. At the same time, childrn may begin to experience the added stress and stigma that comes with poor families. Now that vaccinations can be provided to children, we should encourage everyone to take advantage of the chance to be vaccinated in order to keep children safe and protected, and we will be able to return to normal and study more.
