Lenten Season

Image
We're preoccupied with how to enjoy Christmas this year, despite our attention being drawn to the Covid virus. For our mutual protection and safety, we are not allowed to see one another. This year, we will not be able to experience the traditional Christmas pleasure and excitement that we have grown to expect. The Christmas story is simple to follow. A woman and a father gave birth to our Lord and Savior in a manger. It's critical that we stay current on the most recent public health orders and recommendations — and that we implement them. Without being able to gather in person, we'll have to get creative in order to celebrate and enjoy the Christmas season. Even though this holiday season will be different – and sad for many – we can be assured that the sacrifices we make today will protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities in the future. Covid, on the other hand, should not ruin our Christmas celebrations! Let us spread more hope, peace, joy, and love th...

Bright Future Awaits Us

Image
Covid has wreaked havoc on many people, including children and the elderly. Education is not the same as it used to be, when we could see our instructors and classmates in person, but today we are meeting virtually in the amidst of a pandemic. The days of waking up early, getting ready for a new day at school, and having fun have passed us by. Meeting virtually is a pain for us because we have issues with our internet connection and house disturbances that prevent us from attending virtual classes and missing lessons, but thankfully, even if these issues must stand in our way, the teachers are always available when we communicate with them and ask for more information in our lessons. Every November, the Council of Welfare for Children declares National Children's Month (CWC). This month-long event aims to educate and promote awareness about children's rights in the Philippines, while also taking into consideration the country's political and socioeconomic context. This...

PANDEMIC OFF, CLASSES ON

Image
COVID-19 has wreaked havoc around the world since its outbreak in late December 2019, and education, like any critical sector, has been hard hit. Students, schools, colleges, and universities have all been adversely affected, threatening our bright future. Many difficult challenges confronted us, making our situation difficult. Education isn't like it used to be, where we could meet our teachers, have fun doing activities with my classmates, and laugh all the time when me and my friends were having a good time. Disruptions in the home and an unstable internet connection are wreaking havoc on our educational quality. Not all students are prepared for this type of education; many are struggling and have given up. But if we all work together to defeat this enemy, we might be able to resume our normal lives. Students like me should always be optimistic, believing that all of our hard work will pay off and lead to our success. Consider that there is always someone available to assist a...

GRASP THAT DREAM

Image
Quarter one is when all of students should convene in their classrooms to kick off a new school year. Because the epidemic offended and impacted many people, including kids and their studies, schools were closed and students were unable to attend regular classes, so here we are responding modules and allowing our parents to submit them at school. As I begin answering the first modules, I'll be honest: some of the themes are difficult for me, but I tried my best and responded what I knew. I believe it was not only me who mentioned the difficulties of several subjects. But, thankfully, our teachers are always there to help us, even if they are tired or busy. They always respond and make our thoughts clearer so that we can grasp our assigned work.   More works are likely to emerge as this sort of learning continues. However, many students continue to struggle and experience a variety of issues, including inconsistent network connections, disruption, family issues, assisting t...

Who is in charge of the Philippines? (Letter to the President)

Image
Everyone has their own likings of who will command them. A Person whose Leadership is for the good of everyone, a person whose leadership is not that bad but still bad for others sake, and a leadership that does nothing good for everyone. I am writing this Letter for our President of the Philippines-Mr. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and to all member of the Cabinet. I, John Benedict Guerrero Would like to express my gratitude to you, to all of the good deeds you have done in our beloved Country. I heard one of your speeches when you’re still campaigning on the election for President that you will eliminate all the drug addicts in a short period of time, also known as the Drug War but now there’s still too many addicts but it’s not your fault that they still continue to use drugs, it’s theirs. People now are stubborn, doing things straight and not thinking what would be its effect to them, to their family, and to our environment. Today, we our facing a crisis, a crisis that can destroy hu...

BENE’S OEUVRE (What Best Describes Me)

Who would’ve thought that on 20 th of June 2006, a Gemini was named John Benedict Guerrero, now a 15 years old boy, loves pancakes, loves drinking apple juice, loves listening to music, blue is his favorite color, overthinker, scared of heights, doesn’t know his height, and from Manangat Caoayan Ilocos Sur. Hi!! I am John Benedict Guerrero and Here’s a short composition about me 😊 Once upon a time, Cristeta Guerrero gave birth to a healthy baby boy and its me! My mom raised me alone because my father left her. My mom never lacked of love and care while I was growing up, she taught me how to love, disciplined me, and became my first teacher. She always sends me to school early in the morning and come pick me up in the afternoon. I sure had a happy childhood with my mom and every friend of mine back then. Now that I’m now a grown up man, I am doing my best to make her proud and make my dreams come true. What are friends? Friendship means having someone to laugh at...

What makes Filipino Resilient?

Image
“Filipino resilience” is, in fact, a result of necessity. The underprivileged are forced to make do with what they have due to the uncertainty of the future. They put down their grieving and pick themselves up to resume a life they've lived many times before. Surviving months of starvation, disease, and terrible crisis management is being hailed as a sign of perseverance in our country once again. It's no secret that the Filipino people have long taken pride in their ability to resist natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and typhoon after typhoon. Why shouldn't they, after all? Being able to bounce back immediately after a hardship, all the while offering help and warmth to other people, is a feat one should always hope to have. But the story changes when the trait you work hard to build for yourself, and particularly your country, is used as a tool to shroud its downfall. -Pamela Marquez Every time, the Filipino nation has to endure, brave the ...
